Half a dozen people were sitting along the long table, watching a popular anime show on a flat screen TV.

Part of the activities at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre is a monthly watch-along club for anime fans.

Carolane Sidonie watched the first episodes of the anime shows “MASHLE: Magic and Muscles” and “The Devil is a Part-timer!” with a small group.

Sidonie keeps coming back every month because it’s an opportunity for her to talk about anime with other like-minded people, no matter how small the group size.

“I think it’s fun to talk with everyone, finding new anime (and) new genres, because everyone has different tastes,” she said.

Sidonie, a UPEI financial mathematics student, was one of six people attending. She first heard of the club in September of last year from one of her friends.

When Sidonie first attended, the group was watching the anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen”. She was a bit shy at first.

The best thing about being in Anime Club is meeting new friends, Sidonie said.

Every month, they watch two episodes of popular anime shows, then at end of the meeting, they would pick another anime show to watch the following month.

“I’m basically a big nerd,” Colwill chuckled.

As an anime fan, she thought others would enjoy it as well.

“I really like anime, and I wanted to do something that is (sic) fun, (something that) didn’t feel like work as much,” she said.

During the first meeting, there was only about three people in attendance, Colwill said. Since then, the club has grown to about half a dozen consistent members monthly.

“We love (making) new friends,” she said.

Colwill hopes that they keep meeting regularly.

“Numbers don’t matter to me overly. I just like to have fun, meet and hangout, and create (a) community that way,” she said.

The Anime Club will take a break in June and pick up things back in September.
