A Charlottetown man was convicted of impaired driving in Provincial Court today.

Keighan White pled guilty for driving under the influence of alcohol and for having a blood alcohol level more than twice above the legal limit of 0.08. He was sentenced to five days in jail and a fine of $2000, along with a $600 surcharge.

White has no prior criminal record.

During sentencing, White requested to serve his sentence on the weekend.

"I have a nine-to-five job and a young daughter at home," he said.

The incident began on July 29th at around 2:40 in the morning. White was spotted leaving a downtown area bar in Charlottetown in a 2017 Kia Sportage.

He was driving across the Hillsborough Bridge when Charlottetown police saw signs of impairment, leading them to conduct a traffic stop on the bridge.

White agreed to a roadside breathalyzer test, which he failed when it came out at 0.17, before being arrested and sent to the Charlottetown police station.

There, White underwent another test, which he also failed when it came out at 0.16.

White was released to a friend, along with driving sanctions and a court date.

He is to begin serving his sentence the following day, October 6th.
